How different parts of Israel celebrate Sukkot?

Sukkot is considered as one of the biggest holidays for Jews. The first and last days of the weeklong festivity are national holidays in Israel. The majority of the businesses are closed during those days, while many people take some days off from work in order to gather with their families, visit other cities, enjoy nature and rest.

Jerusalem offers some of the most prominent highlights during Sukkot. Plenty of events, parades, and festivals are taking place during the intermediate days of the celebration.

The “March of Jerusalem” is a very popular parade which runs the city center and includes up to 10.000 participants in local and international groups.

The “Abu Gosh Music Festival” takes place at Jerusalem Hills and is one of the largest vocal music festivals in the country. Like many other major museums of the country, the Israel Museum arranges the Kite Festival” which is a special event with kite flying competitions.

Furthermore, many visitors choose to join a bike tour or to pass by the Tower of David and Safra Square (accommodates the largest Sukkah of Israel) where many special events and activities occur every day.

Tel Aviv is also one of the cities that attract lots of visitors during Sukkot. Countless events related to sports, music, and arts are taking place across the town and spread the feeling of rejoicing which is a fundamental characteristic of the festival.

Sukkah decorations, workshops for families and other special events are organized in different areas like Sarina, Jaffa, Bialik, and the City Port.

At the International Storytelling Festival in Givatayim Theater, someone can attend presentations of top writers for Israel and worldwide. While at the “Icon Festival” at Tel Aviv Cinematheque the visitors have the opportunity to learn about the latest science fiction and role-playing games.

Sukkot falls on a period when the beach season reaches to its end. So, the coastline of Tel Aviv is an ideal area for summer lovers to enjoy the good weather with some swimming, surfing and other water-sports. Finally, many choose to appreciate the outdoors with canyoning, paragliding or by going to the annual biking festival.

Among other, the region of Galilee stands for the hot air balloon festival and many other nature-oriented events which are extremely popular during Sukkot.

The Israeli Fringe Theater Festival that is accommodated at the ancient city of Acco draws the attention of many guests, while Safed, the ancient city of Kaballah is also one of the favourite destinations during Sukkot.

Last but not least. the Haifa Film Festival is an extraordinary event that takes place in the North and attracts over 70.000 visitors to the city of Haifa in Sukkot holiday.

Sukkot at Dead Sea region

The southern parts and the desert regions of the country offer some interesting events like the Tamar Music festival, the International Dance Festival at Hangar Adama and many other alternatives orientated to outdoor activities. Those attract plenty of guests of all ages, nationalities and backgrounds.

The country of Israel is the center of Jewish religion and without any doubt constitutes an ideal destination for someone who seeks to obtain an original experience observing a Jewish festival like Sukkot.
